Roundtable “Challenges of the Justice System and Alternative Solutions”

On 28 March 2025, at the premises of the Ministry of Justice, a roundtable on the topic “Challenges of the Justice System and Alternative Solutions” was held ⚖️.

This roundtable brought together representatives of key justice institutions such as: the Ministry of Justice, the High Judicial Council, Judges, the High Inspectorate of Justice, the General Directorate of Enforcement, representatives of the OSCE in Albania, representatives of the European Union in Albania, representatives of the Austrian Development Agency, the European Court of Arbitration, CSSP – Berlin Center for Integrative Mediation and the National Chamber of Mediators.

The event focused on analyzing the current challenges of the justice system and promoting alternative mechanisms for resolving disputes, with particular emphasis on the role of mediation. The discussions and interactions between the panelists and mediators brought valuable ideas and recommendations for strengthening #mediation as an efficient tool for increasing access to justice.

Advancing #mediation, enhancing access to #Justice in Albania

Significant progress has been made in strengthening the mediation system, promoting a more efficient and inclusive justice framework, on Albania’s path towards the European Union. Key achievements include:

🤝 Over 2,000 cases successfully mediated & 114 cases involving vulnerable citizens free of charge

🏛 3 local branches of the National Chamber of Mediators established in Durres, Elbasan and Vlora

📚 93% of active mediators trained in specialized fields to provide the best service throughout Albania

⚖ Over 500 stakeholders of the justice sector and other strategic fields capacitated on the mediation process

📢 Over 1 million citizens reached through a nationwide awareness campaign

These accomplishments were celebrated and reflected upon during the recent Closing Event of the “Expanding and Empowering the Mediation System in Albania” (EmPoMe) project, supported by the Austrian Development Agency. #EmPoMe has been implemented by CSSP – Berlin Center for Integrative Mediation, the National Chamber of Mediators, and the Albanian Foundation for Conflict Resolution and Reconciliation of Disputes (AFCR), in close collaboration with the Ministry of Justice of Albania since December 2021.

These efforts mark a significant step toward achieving a more inclusive and efficient justice system. As we reflect on these accomplishments, we remain committed to further strengthening the mediation system in Albania.

Ceremony of Recognition of the Right to Practice the Profession of Mediator between Albania and Kosovo

On November 26, 2024, the National Chamber of Mediators, with the support of the Ministry of Justice, held the official ceremony that marked the finalization of the Technical Agreement for the mutual recognition of the profession of mediator between Albania and Kosovo.

This is a historic moment in the framework of the harmonization of the mediation system, strengthening the institutional and professional cooperation between our two countries.

The official ceremony was followed by a roundtable with mediators and experts from Albania and Kosovo to discuss the implementation of the technical agreement between the National Chamber of Mediators and the Kosovo Chamber of Mediators.

The focus of the discussion was the challenges and opportunities for the unification of mediation systems and best practices in both countries, aiming to increase access to justice and promote the resolution of disputes through mediation.

The activity was developed with the support of the project “Expanding and Strengthening the Mediation System in Albania” implemented by the National Chamber of Mediators in partnership with CSSP- Berlin Center for Integrative Mediation and the Foundation for Conflict Resolution and Dispute Reconciliation, with the financial support of the Austrian Development Agency.

In July 2023, the National Chamber of Mediators celebrated its 10th anniversary, in the premises of the Ministry of Justice. The activity was led by the Minister of Justice Mr. Ulsi Manja and the President of the National Chamber of Mediators Mrs. Drita Avdyli.
